Coat, energy and training

Shedding

Low to high

Neither parent has a low-shedding coat, so expect dog hair around the house and seasonal heavy shedding.

Energy

Low

Short daily walks usually do. Watch the weight, because low-energy dogs put it on easily.

Trainability

Moderate

The French Bulldog rates moderate and the Basset Hound low; a puppy may lean either way.

Grooming

Very low to moderate

A weekly brush and the odd bath keep the coat in shape.

Temperament

The French Bulldog is usually described as adaptable, playful, smart. The Basset Hound as charming, patient, low-key. A mix can take after either parent or land in between. If you can, meet both parents of a puppy before you choose.
