Height runs 20–26 inches at the shoulder, against 18–24 in for the Standard Poodle and 23–27.5 in for the Bernese Mountain Dog.

Size figures assume a Standard Poodle parent, the size closest to the Bernese Mountain Dog. A different poodle size moves the whole range.

Coat, energy and training

Shedding
Very low to very high

Poodle has a low-shedding coat, so some puppies shed little. It is not guaranteed: coat type varies even within one litter, and no dog is truly hypoallergenic.

Energy
High

Plan on long daily walks plus real exercise, such as running, fetch or a sport. A yard alone will not tire this dog out.

Trainability
Very high

The Poodle rates very high and the Bernese Mountain Dog high; a puppy may lean either way.

Grooming
Moderate to very high

Expect regular brushing and professional grooming every few weeks.

Temperament

The Poodle is usually described as active, proud, very smart. The Bernese Mountain Dog as good-natured, calm, strong. A mix can take after either parent or land in between. If you can, meet both parents of a puppy before you choose.
